HISTORY: The Group of Monuments Hampi located on the banks of the river
Tungabhadra in Karnataka. Hampi depicts the ruins of the Vijayanagara kingdom which
was the former capital of the powerful Vijayanagara Empire. This is a perfect
example of Dravidian temples, palaces, and architecture. Many travelers during
the 14th and 16th centuries traveled to Hampi to view
the magnificent artifacts. There are different temples surrounded in Hampi like
Virupaksha Temple and other monuments. In 1986 UNESCO declared it a world
heritage site.
